Reign Over Me Production Notes

Filming took place in Manhattan, New York City and Los Angeles, CA. Most of the exterior were shot in NYC on the streets. Park Avenue was featured as a main location in the movie.

Location Versus Studio Filming

Locations

Location filming for Reign Over Me took place in both cities, with stages built in Los Angeles at Sony Entertainment / Columbia Pictures Studios.  Exteriors in New York included Park Avenue, Lower Manhattan, Roosevelt Island, Municipal buildings, a Court House and the streets outside the United Nations.

One of the tricky aspects of filming was the use of the scooter that lead character, Charlie, played by Adam Sandler, used to get around town. Road closures were a major factor in determining if we could shoot in the city, which was desired for creative authenticity. The Governors Office of Film & Television was extremely helpful in coordinating with local officials, the police and traffic divisions to ensure safety and minimize public impact.

Soundstage Filming

Soundstage film work included the Interior Court Room featuring the legendary actor Donald Sutherland as the judge. Downtown Los Angeles office building doubled as New York interiors for the Psychiatry Office of actress Liv Tyler.
